from Essays in Idleness
He does not notice its dead, leaden weight until he has time on his hands. A single second is
heavier than a sack of flour. He would need a car jack to budge a half an hour an inch off
the floor. At night in bed, he cannot breath. The hours stack one by one like stones upon
his chest.
Eric Pankey has a new book forthcoming in fall 2021, Not Yet Transfigured.
